Introduction

The Baccalaureate Service, as known as the Graduation Thanksgiving Service, is common in Christian universities worldwide. Hong Kong Baptist University treasures this tradition and heritage of Christianity in higher education. Every year, Chaplain’s Office organizes this significant event for all graduands to give thanks and praise to God for His abundant grace throughout their campus life while encouraging graduands to be persistent in keeping their convictions and values in life.

The "Baccalaureate Service", also known as the Graduation Thanksgiving Service, is an event organized by the Chaplain’s Office for all graduands. It differs from the graduation Commencement organized by the University.

The purpose of the "Baccalaureate Service" is to provide an opportunity to give thanks and praise to God for His abundant grace throughout their campus life while encouraging graduands to be persistent in keeping their convictions and values in life. Therefore, we strongly encourage all graduands to participate.

  • Rental of Academic Regalia
    • Participants have the option to rent academic regalia, which needs to be returned after the graduation ceremony organized by the university.
  • Refreshments
    • After the event, participants can enjoy refreshments provided at OEE 601-603, Ho Sin Hang Campus.
  • Commemorative photo sessions
    • On the event day, there will be beautifully decorated photo booths where participants can take photos with fellow graduands and faculty members as a keepsake.

All graduands from the academic year 2025 to 2026 are welcome to join this event, including higher diploma students, associate degree students, undergraduate students, and postgraduate students (master's and doctoral students).

The Chaplain’s Office will notify the registered participants via email. Please check your email inbox for updates.

Please send a message via WhatsApp to 9828-2165 or email chap_event@hkbu.edu.hk to inform us that you are unable to attend. Please include your Name and Student ID in the message.

Participants can collect the academic regalia at OEE 601-603, Ho Sin Hang Campus, on Mar. 31, 2026 (Tue) from 2:30 to 5:00 p.m.

Please bring the following items:

  1. Confirmation email
  2. Student ID
  3. Cash deposit (cash only)
  4. Your own eco-friendly bag

If participants are unable to collect the academic regalia in person, please delegate someone to collect it on your behalf. Ensure they bring the required items, including a copy of your student card, to facilitate the collection. Please note that alternative collection dates will NOT be arranged.

All participants should arrive at the University Chapel by 2:40 p.m. and be seated as instructed, wearing the full set of academic regalia.

The "Baccalaureate Service" begins promptly at 3:00 p.m.

Participants who arrive at or after 3:00 p.m. will not be allowed to enter the University Chapel and will be considered absent. The deposit will be completely forfeited. 

Please return the academic regalia to Recreation Centre (OEE606) on Jun. 22, 2026 (Mon) from 2:30 to 5:00 p.m.

The deposit will be fully refunded if you:

  1. Attend the ceremony on time AND
  2. Return the academic regalia on time AND
  3. Ensure that all rented academic regalia in good condition without any damage

If you fail to return the academic regalia on time, NO DEPOSIT will be refunded.

Furthermore, if there are any losses, damages, or stains, the following charges will be deducted from the deposit:

  • Gown: HK$200
  • Hood: HK$100
  • Cap: HK$100
  • Cap Tassel: HK$50
  • Cap Button: HK$50
